چکیده

In this paper, we present an automated video analysis system which addresses segmentation and detection of human actions in an indoor environment, such as a gym. The system aims at segmenting different movements from the input video and recognizing the action types simultaneously. Two action segmentation techniques, namely color intensity based and motion based, are proposed. Both methods can efficiently segment periodic human movements into temporal cycles. We also apply a novel approach for human action recognition by describing human actions using motion and shape features. The descriptor contains both the local shape and its spatial layout information, therefore is more effective for action modeling and is suitable for detecting and recognizing a variety of actions. Experimental results show that the proposed action segmentation and detection algorithms are highly effective. 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Study of Actor and Action Semantic retention in Video Supervoxel Segmentation

Existing methods in the semantic computer vision community seem unable to deal with the explosion and richness of modern, open-source and social video content. Although sophisticated methods such as object detection or bag-of-words models have been well studied, they typically operate on low level features and ultimately suffer from either scalability issues or a lack of semantic meaning. On th...

Deformable Models for Segmentation, 3D Shape and Motion Estimation and Recognition

We present our framework for segmentation, 3D shape and motion estimation and recognition. We first present physics-based modeling techniques for segmentation and 3D shape and motion estimation based on single and multiple views as well as the integration of visual cues such as edges and optical flow. We then present extensions to address the reliable recognition of American Sign Language (ASL)...

Feature Tracking and Motion Compensation for Action Recognition

This paper discusses an approach to human action recognition via local feature tracking and robust estimation of background motion. The main contribution is a robust feature extraction algorithm based on KLT tracker and SIFT as well as a method for estimating dominant planes in the scene. Multiple interest point detectors are used to provide large number of features for every frame. The motion ...

A Tree-Based Approach to Integrated Action Localization, Recognition and Segmentation

A tree-based approach to integrated action segmentation, localization and recognition is proposed. An action is represented as a sequence of joint hog-flow descriptors extracted independently from each frame. During training, a set of action prototypes is first learned based on a k-means clustering, and then a binary tree model is constructed from the set of action prototypes based on hierarchi...
